Thursday is the day that will highlight the first ever public presentation of the LGBT Pride where the rights of these people will be highly regarded. This remarkable event will coincide with the celebration of the International Day Against Homophobia.
Not only are the officials of UN, writers, various artists and LGBT people from the entertainment sectors who are fascinated and engrossed with this activity but also are happy to talk about the rights of the LGBT all over the world, according to BM.
With all the invited guest speakers they will also discuss what they have experienced regarding the feeling of being discriminated that emanates from being a homophobia and transphobia.
Individual LGBT’s in Myanmar frequently go through this silent homophobia thing even if the rules and guidelines for gays have been slowed down the these years, as disclosed by Aung Myo Min, one of the Myanmar Pride organizers said to Gay Star News.
This event will be an indoor activity since there are still unfavourable circumstances happening in Myanmar, but they look forward to the day when they will be having their parade on the streets.
Members of Min’s group, the Human Rights Education Institute Burma (HREIB), has come up with various activities like the IDAHOT events which will be held on May 17 for Myanmar citizens who are now residing in Thailand. By this year HREIB will be coming up with double celebrations in the two considered biggest cities in Myanmar that’s Mandalay and Rangoon. Prior to this event, they had sought the consent and authorization from the local government, news report form BM said.
Min revealed that this has nothing to do with political issues even if there will be negative feedback and reactions from various sectors. This is just to celebrate the overwhelming acceptance and warmth recognition for the LGBT people. After all they are still human beings who deserve to be respected and appreciated. The important message they want to convey for HREIB IDAHOT 2012 states that “Homosexuality is not a sickness, only homophobia” thus they have to end this kind of negative, depressing emotion.
